Meet Jonathan Drew-Academic Advisor II

Jonathan Drew is an academic advisor in our Student Support Center.  Read below to find out more about Jonathan.

Q. What is your current job description?
My current job description is that of Academic Advisor II.  I assist first semester students by helping them learn about the different programs at H.C.  I really try to extract the student’s life and career goals.  I also coordinate New Student Orientation and assist H.C. students who are interested in transferring to 4-year colleges/universities.

Q. Have you held other positions at this school?
Yes, I have taught Introduction to Business and Marketing as an Adjunct Professor here along with working with the Competency Based Education (C.B.E.) Computer Software Professional program.

Q.  Where did you go to college?
I graduated from Montana State University Bozeman in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology.  More recently, I graduated from Walden University in 2014 with an M.B.A. in Marketing.

Q. What is the most fun part of your job?
I really enjoy the community of Helena College, one of the best social environments that I have encountered yet.

Q. What is the most difficult?
Wearing multiple hats at once: orientation, registration, transfers, advising, and knowing just enough information to give advice, etc… all at once.   AND I would have to say listening to my friend’s corny jokes.  You might know him, Greg Thompson, the other Academic Advisor.  LOL!

Q. Hobbies?
Many!  Cub’s fan.  I enjoy reading: my current books for knowledge are The Bible, How to Measure ANYTHING, Thinking: fast and slow, and for fun: Tripwire and The Maltese Falcon.  I have a keen interest in Bush-craft.  I am also Catholic, which has hobbies in and of itself.

Q. Kids?
We have a blended family of 6 children: five girls and one boy.  Christine (19) is a student here in the ECP program who owns a horse and a dog, Robbie (17) “the engineer” is living in the Kalispell area with his father, Katelyn (14) loves Young Justice, Star Wars, comics, etc. and is home-schooled by Sharon, (my amazing wife), Gianna (6) has a reading level that would rival most high-school students and loves to learn, Kyra or K.J. (4) is our adventurer of the bunch and loves to defy gravity at times, and finally Zoey (3) our princess of the group, as evidenced by multiple color coordinated outfits per day (including shoes and head bands) and eyes that melt her Daddy’s heart.

Q. Pets?
I am not a pet person.  By persuasion though, I was quite literally forced to buy a black ‘Golden-doodle’ named Addy and a serial killer cat named Molly by my wife and kiddos.

Q. Favorite Restaurant in Town?
Chubby’s.

Q. Favorite Place to Visit?
I was born and raised in Lubbock, TX but vacationed in Lewistown, MT every summer since I was born.  There are abandoned train tressels around the Lewistown area, one in particular near Hanover, MT.  A walk on the tracks overlooking the sunset is almost blissful.  Great alone time for prayer.
