Design is everywhere. Everything man-made has been designed with a user in mind, be it the wheel to each individual model of cell phone. Though no college program is big enough to encompass every field of design no matter how many years you attended, Helena College offers an Interior Space Planning and Design program that teaches the manipulation of shapes and forms in a space.
This program does an excellent job of opening one’s eyes to the ability of manipulating the world around someone with common household objects and how every room was planned by someone with you in mind. Learning about architecture first hand, however, is tricky in the state of Montana. We have beautiful buildings like the capitol building and the cathedral but our choices are limited.

Therefore, every summer, a giant convention filled with innovative designs and ever changing business trends is held in Chicago for every designer and architect worth his salt to attend. With each of these years the HBIA student chapter of Helena College raises money to attend this event to expand their conceptions of what design is all about. Along with approximately 50,000 other professional designers, our group learns about the most cutting edge concepts that the 500 companies chosen to exhibit have to offer. On top of this amazing opportunity, the group gets to experience the architecture of Chicago, one of the most historically influential cities to host an array of architectural geniuses in the U.S. From the massive number of skyscrapers to the historical building that have stood for a good century or so, famously designed building are on every street corner. Our group hopes to learn from this experience and, with our 100% employment after graduation, influence Helena with what we learn!
